SILK & GOLD EXHIBITION

BY THOMAS HENRIOT , SILK BROCHIER HOUSE& BASU FOUDATION FOR ARTS

Textile piece interpreted and produced from the large format digital image of  drawings, by a high-tech weaving loom.

For more than ten years, Brochier silks in Lyon have done me the honor of supporting me in the transcription of my chineseink drawing work into textile pieces. This collaboration beganwith digital prints of two scarves, then monumental piecesprinted on silk and installed on several buildings in New York, Tangier and Havana.

In 2023, the Brochier workshops in Villeurbanne (Lyon, France) took a new step forward by producing a very large format Jacquard based on a drawing of a temple made in Japan. The creation of this piece represented a major technicalchallenge in that it required the programming of the loom by the team of engineers from Soieries Brochier.

This production gave birth to the idea of a textile exhibition entirely produced by the Brochier House.
The prestigious  House Brochier silkie supports me in the production of unics textile works : we are carrying out research together around very advanced techniques for transcribing my work into gold and silk jacquards.

Thanks to BASU FOUDATION FOR ARTS , who’s invitingme for a six months Artist in residence programm all over India, I am working on a series of drawings whose subject isthe forgotten palaces of certain cities all over India.

Using large format digital images of these drawings, the Brochier Technologie workshops based in Villeurbanne (Lyon, France) will produce textile works made of thousand of silkand gold threads.
