In 2009, Thomas was deeply moved by the work of Cuban writer Reinaldo Arenas. He decided to travel to Havana to pay homage to him by exploring the contemporary places and atmospheres depicted in his prolific body of work. Little did he know that this journey would lead to fifteen years of life on the island, spending six months of each year there, a place as marvelous as it was poisonous.
